Known as a โwhite cherryโ due to the pale colour of the flesh, Cherry โBigarreau Napoleanโ bears large, yellow fruit which becomes blushed with red in the sun. The fruit is firm and well-flavoured with a sweet/sharp tangy taste, different to the sugary dark red cherries. Cherries donโt store for long and taste best freshly picked โ but Bigarreau has the benefit of a long ripening period, allowing you to make several pickings. Height and spread after 10 years: 2.5โ4 metres (8ft-13ft)
- Self-sterile
- Pollination group: D
- Harvest: Early-mid July
Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years.
Estimated time to best yields: 4 years.
This variety is not self-fertile. For the heaviest crops it is best grown with another variety. If you only have room for one tree then make sure that a neighbour has a tree close by that can act as a suitable pollinator.
